In this episode of a AVROTROS documentary series about iconic theatre stars, host Cornald Maas follows performer, entertainer and actrice Jenny Arean in her daily life and routine. ‘One of a kind’ superstar Jenny Arean spent her entire life in the spotlight and -despite being a 78 year old - has one the most beautiful and mesmerizing voices ever heard. The production of a special theatre show together with her much younger colleague Brigitte Kaandorp unfortunately had to be postponed because of Covid.

Company New Heroes is on a mission to engage the global youth in discussing what really matters! Through the Youth Priorities Initiative project for Y20 Community, they are aiming to connect a young, diverse and global community to the Y20 Youth Summit.
An event bringing young leaders from all G20 countries together to discuss, debate and take action towards the most pressing economic challenges and opportunities of the world today. To me the noble honor of giving this bunch of young guns in colloboration with Full Frame some advice in producing three ‘state of the art’ live talkshows.

BETTER THAN THE MASTER

On behalf of the production company CCCP, I directed a pilot show about kids and art with Jasper Krabbé and the former and fantastic team of the ‘Blauwe Hond’. In this TV show ‘Better than the Master’, Jasper is going up against a talented 12 year old to find out whose artwork is best according to our famous guests. In this pilot show, singer Maan decides which of the two artworks will be on her wall!

PRIDE AMSTERDAM 2020

Being proud of who you are and who you love is what it's all about in the week of Amsterdam Pride. And despite the world-famous Canal Parade being cancelled, there is still plenty to celebrate. AVROTROS celebrates Pride with a special broadcast in which presenters Ellie Lust and Rik van de Westelaken look back at the outstanding and special boats who’ve participated in the Canal parade the few last years. They will also interview athletes, artists, politicians and police officers about what Pride means to them personally. Furthermore, Ellie will undergo a special tutorial from NikkieTutorials and Rik will be transformed by Lady Galore.

Marieke Uildriks, director Museum JAN, pays a visit to the exhibition Mancini: Eccentric & Extravagant in The Mesdag Collection in The Hague. Hendrik Willem Mesdag (1831-1915) was a painter and collector and one of Mancini's early adaptors. During 20 years, Mesdag shipped 150 (!) works -who where painted by Mancin i- to the Netherlands, which he subsequently exhibited and sold on.

OPIUM OP OEROL

The performing arts are in dire straits due to the corona crisis. This while the arts offer us comfort and entertainment which we desperately need in these difficult times. In a new, alternative program - a daily live show with an audience is not possible - presenter Cornald Maas encounters some artists who have a close relationship with the Oerol Festival. Amongst them are rapper Typhoon, writer Paulien Cornelisse and singer-songwriter Jeangu Macrooy who will show Cornald around and talk about their past 'Oerol' performances and future plans.

OPERATION SONG CONTEST

The band The Roop will represent Lithuania during the Eurovision Song Contest that will be held in Rotterdam this year. The song
​‘On Fire’ is not only very popular in the Eurovision polls but the moves of the band gets the whole of Europe groovin’!
​I will follow The Roop during the first rehearsal, meet and greets, the press conferences, the whole Eurovision circus and their performance in the first semi-final on May 12th. Will The Roop make the Grand Finale on Saturday 16th??

Ralph Keuning director Museum De Fundatie pays a visit to the exhibition ‘Aat Veldhoen - Art of life’ in Museum Kranenburgh.
Artist Aat Veldhoen (1934 – 2018) lived in Amsterdam amongst his artworks and his versatile oeuvre, including drawings, etchings, paintings, photos, ceramics and sculptures, remained unwavering to the end.
