DESIGN
OCTOBER 2017 Kunstuur proudly presents four thrilling episodes on the latest trends in Design! We travelled to design Walhalla Milan and of course visited our ‘own’ Dutch Design city Eindhoven. What makes Dutch Design so popular and ‘different’? And what are the ideas, concepts and product materials of a new generation of talented designers as Nynke Koster, Sabine Marcelis and AtelierNL? And how do Dutch topdesigners as Marcel Wanders, Maarten Baas and Daan Roosegaarde think about the future of design and their practice? Furthermore, during a month we witnessed the efforts and experiments of young designer Floris Wubbe in designing a new lamp which –deadline!- he has to show during the Dutch Design Week. Broadcast: October Kunstuur 17.40 pm NPO2 |
DUTCH MASTERS RETOUR
HOLLANDSE MEESTERS RETOUR SEPT/OCT 2017 For over a year I’ve been following Cathelijne Broers, director of the Hermitage Amsterdam, in her quest to exhibit 64 Dutch Masters from the collection of the State Hermitage Museum in Sint Petersburg. My Russian crew and I witnessed on our last ‘production day’ in Sint Petersburg how Rembrandts ‘Flora’ was packed for transportation to The Netherlands. I can tell you now that she arrived safely in Amsterdam and she –as well as the 63 others- can be admired from October on in the Hermitage Amsterdam at the Dutch Amstel! Broadcast: Febr. 13th Hollandse Meesters Retour 2018 NPO2 |
WHAT’S ON?
SEPTEMBER 2017 Museum director Ralph Keuning plunges into the life of the young English photographer Jamie Hawkesworth, now an icon in the fashion world. In 2007, during his studies forensics, for the first time Jamie picks up a camera to shoot evidence of a crime scene. Since then, he’d never let go of the camera. A year later he quits his studies and switches to photography. The exhibition ‘Landscape with Tree’ is until December 3rd on display in Huis Marseille, Amsterdam. Broadcast: September 28th What's on? at 21.40 PM NPO2 |
ART HOUR / KUNSTUUR
AUGUST 2017 This new series of episodes has a dazzling start because of Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota who has a wonderful and mes-merizing exhibition in Stedelijk Museum Den Bosch. In Düsseldorf we shot an interview with marketing man and photo col-lector Erik Kessels amongst a pile of thousands of printed photographs, the result of (only) 24 hour uploads on Flickr! Furthermore, portrait photographer Koos Breukel proudly shows us the work of his nineteenth-century colleagues in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. Broadcast: September 10th Kunstuur at 17.40 PM NPO2 |
MY BOOK BUDDY
JULY 2017 The newspaper headline ‘cemetery of lost years’ about refugee camps was painfully spot on when I visited a camp in Beirut. The conditions in which people have to survive are downright awful and life stands still. There is no perspective at all. I’m feeling ambiguous to film these people, even if it is for a fantastic cause. Yet I hope that this JVtv film will contribute to the project My Book Buddy It is super important that children have access to books and stories. Support MBB!! Education is everything. share the video My Book Buddy |
VENICE BIËNNALE 2017
MAY 2017 During the 57th edition of the Venice Biennale, Dutch artist Wendelien van Oldenborgh and her curator Lucy Cotter will represent The Netherlands. In the Dutch ‘Rietveld’ pavilion located in the Giardini, the duo presents ‘Cinema Olanda’, a multimedia film installation that narrates about a forgotten, postcolonial history. We’ve shot some footage in the Sint Bavokerk in Rotterdam where the first rehearsal for Wendeliens film shoot took place, we visited her studio and made a special report on the opening of Cinema Olanda in Venice. Broadcast: May 21st Kunstuur at 17.40 pm NPO2 |
SALONE DEL MOBILE MILANO
APRIL 2017 In designmekka Milan everything is about design, everything! In just a weekend we’ve visited the famous Salone Internazionale del Mobile that you could compare with the Amsterdam Rai x 10 (!), stocked with furniture and interior design. Moreover, in Milans atmospheric and beautiful city centre we interviewed a lot of Dutch designers who present here their latest work. This autumn we’ll produce three special episodes on design, future design trends and the Dutch Design Week. Broadcast: Fall 2017 Kunstuur Design NPO2 |

SINT PETERSBURG
MARCH 2017 It’s definitely an adventure to be in Russia for a five day shoot. To almost wander solely through the State Hermitage in Sint Petersburg is exceptional and magical. To hear all about the Dutch ‘Russian’ masters, to visit the studios where the paintings are being restored and to witness the negotiations between team Russia and team Holland is truly a unique experience. Do svidaniya! Broadcast: Dutch Masters Retour, from February 13th 2018 |

BILBAO
FEBRUARY 2017 We just love the spiders of Louise Bourgeois in GEM Den Haag but the giant one in Bilbao is something different! We had to film this huge spider for the Man and Art project, but since we’re in the Guggenheim…. So it was decided to shoot a special episode about the architecture of this spectacular building (interview with director Mr Vidarte) and the collection (interview with curator Manuel Ciraugui). Broadcast: April 5th Kunstuur | Man and Art 22.40 pm NPO2 |
CLAUDE MONET
FEBRUARY 2017 On this snapshot cameraman Jelle Odé rearranges the water lilies into place. If you see water lilies, you think of Monet. But Claude Monet also painted a lot of mills, here in the Dutch Zaanstreek! You didn’t know that, right?! Broadcast: April 3rd Man and Art | Monet at 22.40 pm NPO2 |

VAN HONTHORST
FEBRUARY 2017 ‘De Koppelaarster’ by Van Honthorst is by far my favourite painting! It’s in the collection of the Centraal Museum in Utrecht and I just jumped into the air when I heard that plans were made to shoot a special episode on this spectacular work. The work also took us to Rome because Van Honthorst painted in the clair/obscure tradition of Caravaggio. In this episode of Man and Art you’ll find out more about light and dark and Italian icecream of course. Broadcast: April 4th Man and Art | Van Honthorst at 22.40 NPO2 |
HERMITAGE
FEBRUARY 2017 This whole year my crew and I follow director Cathelijne Broers and her team in the Hermitage Amsterdam. And this month marks the opening of the Romanovs exhibition. However, the preparations (and diplomatic meetings) concerning the upcoming grand Dutch Masters exhibition never stop. Today Cathelijne consults her colleague Taco Dibbets, director of the Rijksmuseum, about a delicate matter and Irinia is busy working on the catalogue. Broadcast: Dutch Masters Retour, four episodes 2018 NPO2. |
DUBUFFET
JANUARY 2017 Kind of chilly today with an average temperature of -15 Celsius. Anyway, it feels like that. On our first production day we were suffering the cold on the Veluwe at museum Kröller Müller. But, Dubuffets Jardin d’email is so cheerful and extra beautiful in the snowy landscape. We’re looking forward to going to Paris later to visit an even bigger jardin of the French master. And we’ll have an extra hot chocolate milk after the wrap today. Broadcast: April 7th Man and Art | Dubufette at 22.40 pm NPO2 |
